AT&T announced today it’s providing 1 gigabit per second internet speeds to businesses in the Columbia area, as well as Upstate and Lowcountry markets.
Other Midlands communities with the 1 Gbps service are Blythewood, Irmo and West Columbia. The service also has been extended to Anderson, Charleston, Duncan, Easley, Greenville, Greer, Mauldin, Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, Piedmont, Spartanburg, Summerville, and York, the company said.
"In today's global, digital economy, fortune favors the fast," said Bobby Hitt, South Carolina Secretary of Commerce. "At every step, from collaboration and innovation to product delivery, speed creates a competitive advantage. The availability of high-speed communications capabilities delivered by fiber optics is listed as a priority for a vast number of companies seeking to expand or relocate facilities."
With internet speeds of up to 1Gbps businesses can:
• Download 8,000-word processing documents in 1 second.
• Download a two-hour HD video in 36 seconds.
• Backup/restore 1 terabyte hard drive in 2.5 hours.
AT&T said it has expanded its fiber footprint to more than 13,900 business customers in South Carolina and also serves about 180 multi-tenant office buildings in the state.
